Ode to the Text
Can we take a moment to appreciate one of the greatest inventions for human connection?
No, not AI (though… hello 👋).
Not the air fryer.
Not even voice notes — the new frontier of personal podcasting that no one asked for but everyone loves.
I’m talking about the humble text message.
Yes. The tiny digital love note. The pocket-sized lifeline. The “thinking of you” that arrives between meetings, while stirring pasta, or from someone sitting across the room because actually speaking out loud feels like too much.
Texts are the unsung heroes of our modern relationships.
Where else can we say things like:
“Home in 10, start the kettle.”
“Saw this meme and thought of your entire personality.”
“You alive?” (deeply affectionate)
“I forgot what we were talking about but I’m nodding in solidarity.”
“This reminded me of you” — the six most binding words in the English language.
Texts make connection easy in the best possible way. They don’t require a calendar invite or a cleaned-up face. They ask so little and offer so much: reassurance, humour, presence, the tiny spark that says, “You matter, and I’m right here.”
And honestly? Most of the time, that’s all we need.
I think sometimes we forget that meaningful connection doesn’t always look like long conversations or big gatherings. Often, it looks like a three-word text sent at exactly the right moment.
A tap of the thumb.
A flicker of attention.
A gentle “hey, I see you.”
So here’s a nudge for you:
Who deserves a tiny digital love note from you? What texts might you send this week?
And what might shift — for them and for you — if you sent it?”
